Summary — English
Ravana, humbled and fearful after his defeat by Rama, reflects in Lanka that his boons of invulnerability excluded men, and recognizes Rama as the man foretold by Anaranya and the sages. He orders that Kumbhakarna, asleep under Brahma's curse, be awakened and that demons be posted at the gates and ramparts. Demons go to Kumbhakarna's vast cave and struggle to rouse him with heaps of food, blood, liquor, perfumes, and tremendous noise from conches, drums and shouts, even striking him and running elephants over him. At last Kumbhakarna wakes, yawning fearsomely, devours flesh and drinks blood and liquor, and then speaks to the assembled demons.
