Now the Hridaya Stotram of Narayana. Of this sacred mantra-stotram called the Hridaya of Shri Narayana, the sage is Bhargava, the metre is Anushtubh, the deity is Shri Lakshmi Narayana, Om is the seed, Namah is the power, and 'Narayanaya' is the peg; it is employed in recitation for the sake of pleasing Shri Lakshmi Narayana. Hand-placements: Om, Narayana is the supreme light — obeisance to the thumbs; Narayana is the supreme Brahman — obeisance to the index fingers; Narayana is the supreme god — obeisance to the middle fingers; Narayana is the supreme abode — obeisance to the ring fingers; Narayana is the supreme dharma — obeisance to the little fingers; the universe is Narayana — obeisance to the palms and backs of the hands. Body-placements: Narayana is the supreme light — obeisance to the heart; Narayana is the supreme Brahman — svaha to the head; Narayana is the supreme god — vaushat to the crest; Narayana is the supreme abode — hum to the armour; Narayana is the supreme dharma — vaushat to the eyes; the universe is Narayana — phat to the weapon. Binding of the directions: Om, to the ten directions beginning with Indra's — Om, obeisance to Sudarshana, to the thousand-spoked one, hum phat, I bind, obeisance to the disc, svaha. Thus it is to be applied in each direction. Now the meditation: May one meditate on Hari, the lord of Lakshmi, blazing like the rising sun, clad in yellow, four-armed, holding conch, disc and mace in his hands. ^AI

Narayana is the chief fruit; attainment is Narayana; happiness is Narayana. Narayana is to be served, the pure one. O Narayana, salutations to you. [Hari] Now the decade of prayers. O Narayana, you alone dwell in the heart called the cave (dahara). You are the impeller of those who are impelled; the mind is impelled by you. ^AI

நாராயணனே முதன்மையான பலன்; சித்தியும் நாராயணனே, இன்பமும் நாராயணனே; சேவிக்கத்தக்கவன் நாராயணனே, அவன் தூயவன்; நாராயணனே, உனக்கு நமஸ்காரம். Having placed your command upon my head, I recite the name that purifies people. You are the maker of existence and the awakener of understanding of the various paths of worship. ^AI

You are the giver of the meaning of the heart, beyond existence; be the giver of happiness to me. This world, deluded by your maya, is fashioned by you alone. ^AI

By your mere support she (Lakshmi) accomplishes all things. Placing her before you, show forth all desires. ^AI

There is no protector for me other than you; there is no deity other than you. I know no other than you, the guardian who increases merit. ^AI

உன்னைத் தவிர எனக்குக் காப்பவர் வேறு யாரும் இல்லை; உன்னைத் தவிர வேறு தெய்வமும் இல்லை; புண்ணியத்தை வளர்க்கும் காப்பவனாகிய உன்னைத் தவிர வேறு யாரையும் நான் அறியேன். ^AI

As long as there is the worldly condition, dwelling in the mind and of the nature of imagination, so long may the attainable attainment come about, in every way, always, O all-pervading one. ^AI

எவ்வளவு காலம் சம்சார நிலையாகிய மனதில் நிற்கும் எண்ணம் உள்ளதோ, அவ்வளவு காலம் அடைய வேண்டிய சித்தி எல்லா வகையிலும் எப்போதும் நிறைவேறட்டும், எல்லாம் வல்லவனே. ^AI

I am indeed the foremost among sinners, and you are the foremost among the compassionate. Who in these three worlds is more worthy of compassion than me? ^AI

பாவிகளில் நானே முதன்மையானவன்; கருணையாளர்களில் நீயே தலைவன். என்னைத் தவிர இரங்கத்தக்கவர் வேறு யார் இந்த மூன்று உலகங்களில் உள்ளார்? ^AI

If you had not created me, your compassion would not exist. And if disease had not been created, the rise of medicine would be in vain. ^AI

நீ என்னைப் படைத்திருக்காவிட்டால் உனது கருணை இருந்திருக்காது. நோய் படைக்கப்படாவிட்டால் மருந்தின் தோற்றம் வீணாகும். ^AI

Worn out by hosts of sins, a sinful self, wearing the form of sin — who else on the surface of this world besides you is a protector from sins? ^AI

பாவங்களின் கூட்டத்தால் களைத்தவன், பாவியானவன், பாவ வடிவம் தரித்தவன்; இந்த உலகில் பாவங்களிலிருந்து காக்கும் உன்னைத் தவிர வேறு யார் உள்ளார்? ^AI

You alone are mother and father, you alone are kinsman and friend, you alone are to be served and you alone are the guru; you alone are everything to me, O God of gods. ^AI

நீயே தாய், நீயே தந்தை, நீயே உறவினன், நீயே நண்பன், நீயே வணங்கத்தக்கவன், நீயே குரு, தேவர்களின் தேவனே, நீயே எனக்கு எல்லாம். ^AI

Whoever daily recites and hears this set of ten prayers and then the root octad, Lakshmi becomes steadfast for him. ^AI

The heart of Narayana grants the fruit of all desires; if the Lakshmi Hridaya stotra is left out of it — ^AI

Again reciting Narayana, then one should recite the praise of Lakshmi; again Narayana is to be recited — this becomes the combining together. ^AI

மீண்டும் நாராயணனை ஜபித்து, மீண்டும் லக்ஷ்மியின் துதியை ஜபிக்க வேண்டும்; மீண்டும் நாராயணனை ஜபிப்பதே சங்கலீகரணம் (ஒருங்கிணைத்து ஜபித்தல்) ஆகும். ^AI

Thus in the middle, twice over, one should recite that combined hymn, the heart of Lakshmi, which makes all desires manifest. ^AI

இவ்வாறு இடையில் இருமுறை ஜபித்து ஒருங்கிணைக்கப்பட்ட லக்ஷ்மி இதய ஸ்தோத்திரம் எல்லா விருப்பங்களையும் வெளிப்படுத்துவதாகும். ^AI

In like manner one should perform the recitation and so on; this combined practice is auspicious. One obtains all desires and it removes fear of mental affliction and disease. ^AI

அதுபோலவே ஜபம் முதலியவற்றைச் செய்ய வேண்டும்; இந்த ஒருங்கிணைந்த ஜபம் நன்மை தருவது. எல்லா விருப்பங்களையும் அடைந்து, மனக்கவலை, நோய், பயம் ஆகியவற்றை நீக்குகிறது. ^AI

This should always be kept secret; one should not make it known everywhere. ^AI

On Friday and at night one should worship the pair of books. In every way and at all times—this is true—the wise seeker should keep it secret and accomplish it. By keeping it secret and by accomplishing it, one truly becomes blessed in the world. ^AI

வெள்ளிக்கிழமை இரவில் இரு புத்தகங்களையும் பூஜை செய்ய வேண்டும். எல்லா வகையிலும் எப்போதும் உண்மையாக இரகசியமாகக் காத்து சாதனை செய்ய வேண்டும். இரகசியமாகக் காத்தலாலும் சாதனை செய்வதாலும் உலகில் உண்மையாகவே பாக்கியவான் ஆகிறான். ^AI

Thus ends the Narayana Hridaya in the Uttara section of the Atharva Rahasya. Now the Lakshmi Hridaya Stotram. For this great mantra, the Lakshmi Hridaya Stotram, the sage is Bhargava; the metres are various, beginning with Anushtubh; the deity is the primordial Shri Mahalakshmi; the seed is Shrim; the power is Hrim; the peg is Aim; the application is for the attainment of the grace of the primordial Mahalakshmi. Setting of the sage and the rest: Om, salutation to the sage Bhargava, on the head. Om, salutation to the various metres beginning with Anushtubh, on the mouth. Om, salutation to the deity the primordial Shri Mahalakshmi, in the heart. Om, salutation to the seed Shrim, in the secret place. Om, salutation to the power Hrim, at the feet. Om, salutation to the peg Aim, at the navel. Om, salutation to the application, on all limbs. Setting of the hands: Om Shrim, salutation to the thumbs. Om Hrim, salutation to the index fingers. Om Aim, salutation to the middle fingers. Om Shrim, salutation to the ring fingers. Om Hrim, salutation to the little fingers. Om Aim, salutation to the palms and backs of the hands. Setting of the limbs: Om Shrim, salutation to the heart. Om Hrim, hail to the head. Om Aim, vashat to the crest. Om Shrim, hum to the armour. Om Hrim, vaushat to the three eyes. Om Aim, phat to the weapon. Om Shrim Hrim Aim — thus the binding of the directions. Now the meditation. I meditate on the goddess Lakshmi, holding lotuses in her two hands in her own play, adorned with necklaces and anklets. Clad in yellow silk, with lotus eyes, her two hands showing a lotus, the gesture of fearlessness and the gesture of boon, resembling the rising sun, seated on the highest lap, I meditate on the Mother whose pair of feet is bowed to by Brahma and Shiva. Clad in yellow garments, with a golden body, accompanied by two lotus hands — meditating on Lakshmi with this mantra, one becomes a lord of the earth. Holding in her hand a citron, a mace, a shield and a vessel, and bearing a serpent, a linga and a yoni on her head. [Thus having meditated and worshipped with mental offerings: O Lakshmi, who holds conch, discus and mace, of white colour, O virtuous lady, O giver of all attainments, grant me a boon. ^AI
