May this salutation be to the two who are adorned with the crescent moon as a crest ornament, who are the fruit of their own austerity, who reveal the fruit to devotees, who are auspicious to the three worlds without exception, and who again and again in the heart are the source of becoming and whose bliss is a thrilling experience. O Shambhu, may this wave of Shiva's bliss, flowing from the river of your deeds, destroying the dust of sin, falling upon the paths of the channels of the intellect, victorious, granting the alleviation of the torment of wandering in worldly existence, and dwelling in the lake of my mind, prevail. I worship in my heart Shiva, who is known by the three Vedas, who is pleasing to the heart, who is the destroyer of the three cities, who is the first, who has three eyes, whose matted hair is abundant, who has a moving serpent as a garland, who holds a deer, who is the great god, who is divine, who has a compassionate disposition toward me, who is the lord of creatures, who is the support of consciousness, who is with the Mother, and who is free from all mockery. There are thousands of gods in the world who grant petty fruits. I do not think that following them, even in a dream, yields that fruit. I long for the service of your lotus feet, O Shambhu, O Shiva, which is difficult to obtain even for Hari, Brahma, and others who are near to you. AI

Just as the intellect sees silver in mother-of-pearl, a jewel in glass, water in a mirage, milk in a paste of flour, so the ignorant person, through the error of divinity, worships another than you, O Lord of creatures, not having known you, the great god, in his mind. AI

As the ankola tree (to its seeds), as the loadstone to iron filings, as the needle (to the magnet), as a virtuous wife to her own husband, as a creeper to a tree, as the ocean to rivers—just as these attain their beloved, so the mind, having approached the pair of lotus feet of Pashupati, remains always; that is called devotion. With tears of joy she causes horripilation; with purity she covers (the child); with words placed in the conch-like mouth she fills the belly with the nectar of your deeds; with rudraksha beads and with laughter she protects the body of the god; having placed the child-devotee on the bed of contemplation of you, the mother of devotion protects him. The sandals turned around on the path become a head-rest for the body of Pashupati; the sprinkling of water from rinsing the mouth becomes a divine ablution for the destroyer of cities; the leftover morsel of food from eating a little meat becomes a new offering; what does devotion not do? Indeed, a forest-dweller becomes an ornament of devotion. AI
